Job Description

We are looking for a candidate with entry-level qualifications to join our kitchen team. The ideal applicant must be able to read, write, and speak to effectively communicate and follow written or oral instructions. A basic knowledge of sanitary food preparation procedures, various cooking methods, and general equipment use and cleaning is essential.

The candidate must have at least 2 years of cooking experience in a health care setting and be able to see at 20/40 corrected in each eye and hear (hearing aid acceptable). Additionally, the ability to stand continuously for 7 hours during an 8-hour shift and ambulate through the kitchen is necessary. The role also requires the ability to bend and lift objects up to a maximum of 50 lbs.

As part of the essential functions, the responsibilities include:

  • Cooking attractive, tasty, and nutritious meals according to menus.
  • Cleaning the kitchen and equipment as needed or according to a routine cleaning schedule.
  • Obeying all sanitation and safety rules while completing assigned weekly cleaning duties.
  • Keeping a daily record of freezer, cooler, and dishwasher temperatures.
  • Maintaining patient diet records in the absence of a supervisor.
  • Securing meal tickets following each meal.
  • Stocking and straightening storerooms, coolers, and freezers as directed.
  • Opening and/or closing the kitchen in a timely manner.
  • Attending in-service classes as required.
  • Being polite and courteous to staff, patients, and visitors.
  • Following established preparation guidelines and production standards.
  • Using leftovers creatively and wholesomely.
  • Maintaining a professional demeanor and appearance.
  • Storing food safely, utilizing proper dating and covering guidelines.
  • Regular attendance and a cooperative manner with co-workers, managers, clients, and prospective clients.
  • Performing in a constant state of alertness to ensure safety.
  • Completing other duties as assigned by the Food Service Director and Dietary General Manager.
