Job Description

Join an inclusive, global team and make life-long connections. This role is posted for our spring/summer 2025 season! You will be working in a remote, boat-in position located in Kenai Fjords National Park. Due to this, all positions at KFWL require assisting in other departments.

Engaged in preparing and cooking food to ensure an efficient and profitable food service, the Fox Island Cook is responsible for preparing the food served at the Day Lodge or Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and for employee meals. You will ensure guests receive a consistent high-quality dining experience and aid in the daily activities of the kitchen and the facility.

Your daily tasks will include:

  • Provide excellent customer service to guests and other team members.
  • Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities.
  • Work closely with all other departments to ensure overall guest satisfaction.
  • Ensure that guests’ special needs are met.
  • Primarily responsible to prepare, cook, and clean after all meals.
  • Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation facilities.
  • Keep kitchen, food preparation, and storage areas in strict adherence with health regulations.
  • Conduct other duties as required, including opening and closing duties.
  • Observe methods of food preparation and cooking, sizes of portions, and garnishing of foods to ensure food is prepared in a prescribed manner.
  • Arrive to work on time, ready to work, dressed in clean uniform, with a neat and clean appearance.
  • Participate in emergency response activities including firefighting and emergency medical activities (within an employee’s training limitations).
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Valid Alaska Food Handler’s Certification; ServSafe Managers certificate preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling and preparation standards.
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Culinary School graduate or previous experience as a cook in food service operations.
  • Ability to push, pull, carry, and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds regularly.
