Job Summary
The Salvation Army, Clitheroe Men's Residential Center in Anchorage, Alaska, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Cook to join our team. This full-time position (40 hours per week) is non-exempt and focuses on providing nutritious and appealing meals to clients, guests, and staff within a 42-bed residential facility. The ideal candidate will possess strong culinary skills, excellent communication abilities, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and efficient kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Cook will:
- Prepare and serve nutritious and attractive meals and snacks from the planned menu, adjusting for special dietary needs.
- Follow established preventative maintenance procedures and report equipment issues to the Operations Manager.
- Maintain a positive and energetic attitude, providing excellent customer service at all times.
- Rotate stock, manage inventory, and report food and supply needs to the Operations Manager.
- Adhere to all Federal, State, local, and Salvation Army food service regulations, and report any safety violations to the Operations Manager.
- Keep the kitchen clean and well organized.
- Assume full responsibility of food service operations when the Lead Cook and/or Operations Manager is unavailable.
- Assist other kitchen personnel as needed.
- Complete all required competencies and Relias Learning courses.
- Attend staff meetings and complete required trainings.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two (2) years’ experience as a cook, with one year in an institutional setting.
- Obtain a Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire
- Serv-Safe certification
- Understanding of trauma-informed care.
- Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication skills with individuals of varying cultural backgrounds.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to work harmoniously with peers, supervisors, clients, families, and visitors.
- Ability to assess safety needs and follow standardized safety procedures.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and remain self-motivated with minimal supervision.
Location and Additional Requirements
This position is located at 800 West End Road, Anchorage, Alaska 99502.
- Must be able to understand, follow, and provide both written and oral instructions.
- Must be able to perform simple calculations, apply ratios, and percentages.
- Must be creative, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and possess leadership skills.
- Complete the online course for Sacred Boundaries and Protect the Mission and pass the required background check.
- Must possess the physical ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, and reach overhead; operate a telephone, lift up to 70 pounds (assistance encouraged); and access/operate a computer. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle in all conditions.
- Special attention to handling hot food items, and wearing a back brace is encouraged.
