Cook, Part-Time at The Salvation Army, Clitheroe Men's Residential Center

Located at 800 West End Road, Anchorage, Alaska 99502, this part-time position (25-29 hours per week) is non-exempt. Essential Functions

Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, the Cook plays a critical role in supporting client recovery by providing well-balanced and attractive meals for a 42-bed residential facility. This includes clients, guests, and staff, and attending to special dietary needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One (1) year of experience as a cook, including at least one year in an institutional setting.
  • The Salvation Army will sponsor obtaining a Food Handlers Card within 30 days of hire and also sponsor Serv-Safe certification.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and serves nutritional and attractive meals and snack trays from the planned menu, adapting meals to meet clients' special needs.
  • Maintains kitchen cleanliness and organization.
  • Follows established preventative maintenance procedures and reports equipment failures and maintenance needs to the Operations Manager.
  • Maintains a positive and energetic attitude while providing excellent customer service.
  • Rotates stock, checks inventory levels, and reports food and supply needs to the Operations Manager.
  • Strictly adheres to Federal, State, local, and Salvation Army food service procedures, policies, and regulations; reporting any unsafe acts or violations to the Lead Cook or Operations Manager.
  • Assumes full responsibility for food service operations when the Lead Cook and/or Operations Manager is unavailable.
  • Assists other kitchen personnel, shares suggestions and ideas in staff meetings, and ensures completion of all required competencies and Relias Learning courses.
  • Attends staff meetings and completes required trainings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with demonstrated ability to work harmoniously with peers, supervisors, clients, families, and visitors
  • Ability to assess safety needs and follow standardized safety procedures
  • Ability to complete multiple tasks, meet deadlines, remain self-motivated, and work with minimum supervision
  • Microsoft Office Suite proficiency, along with the ability to learn new software with basic training
  • Ability to understand, follow, and provide both written and oral instructions
  • Ability to use speech and hearing for ordinary and telephone conversations
  • Proficiency in basic math (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division), including ratios and percentages
  • Creative, self-motivated, organized, flexible, and possessing leadership skills
  • Completion of the online Sacred Boundaries and Protect the Mission course and passing the Background Check required by The Salvation Army

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, push, pull, reach overhead, operate a telephone, lift up to 70 pounds (assistance encouraged), and operate a motor vehicle in various conditions (darkness, inclement weather). Ability to access and produce information from a computer and understand written information is also necessary. A back brace is encouraged, and special care is required when handling hot food items. Reasonable accommodations will be considered, if applicable.

The work environment is in a Residential treatment setting with a moderate noise level.
