Job Description

This position works in a 24/7 Residential Community Corrections facility.

The Cook is responsible for the food preparation, planning, and conducting the facility's food service program in a confinement setting. A Cook is responsible for kitchen and dining area sanitation. The Cook assists in the storage, inventory, and ordering of food. It is the Cook’s responsibility to help in delivering meals to Embrave facilities.

The Cook assists with planning meals far enough in advance for clients to minimize the need for food substitutions; when substitutions are necessary, helps to serve food of equivalent nutritional value. The Cook helps to maintain established standards of sanitation, safety, and food preparation and storage as set by the local and state health departments, including:

  • Storing foodstuffs and supplies in appropriate areas.
  • Washing dishes.
  • Cleaning refrigerators, stove, bins, cupboards, and other kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Sweeping and mopping kitchen floors.

The Cook supervises the food line, participates in all emergency drills and environmental safety activities, and participates in general staff meetings and other meetings and events planned by the grantee and delegate agency as requested. The Cook substitutes for the Cook in his/her absence.

Education/ Work Experience: High school diploma or equivalent education.
