Job Description

The cook is responsible for preparation, cooking, seasoning, and serving adequate, attractive, nutritious, and balanced meals. This includes meat, fish, fowl, vegetables, fruit, soups, salads, desserts, breads, and pastries, as specified and scheduled by the menus. The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal and state regulations and established company policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Handle and prepare food that is palatable, appetizing, and attractive.
  • Comply with meal schedules.
  • Follow standard recipes while making independent decisions based on experience.
  • Understand the importance of proper food-handling techniques.
  • Estimate quantities of food required and monitor portion control guidelines for individual residents.
  • Prepare foodstuffs for cooking, including peeling, washing, trimming, and cutting vegetables and fruits.
  • Cook food by baking, roasting, stewing, and steaming, as well as preparing gravies, stocks, dressings, sauces, and soups.
  • Serve food according to dietary guidelines, checking each tray for completeness and accuracy.

Qualifications include demonstration of our Core Values: Love, Kindness, Honesty, Goodness, Fairness, Respect. A high school diploma is preferred, but at a minimum, the ability to read and write in English is required. Previous experience in the dietary department of a health care facility is preferred.

Team members who are scheduled to work 24 or more hours per week are eligible for benefits, and families of said team members will also be eligible.
