Job Description

Facility: Kennestone Hospital

We are seeking a Bistro Cook - PRN who will be responsible for preparing nutritious and delicious food for Wellstar Retail Service and/or other satellite areas utilizing recipes and conventional and/or cook/chill production methods, equipment, or tools. This role requires a passion for the culinary arts and adherence to all sanitation and food handling codes established by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points and local county Dept. of Health.

The successful candidate must be able to comply with a higher standard of safety and sanitation as a result of preparing food for a high-risk population that has developing, weakening, or compromised immune systems. You will need to possess the ability to manage time and plan work accordingly to produce a variety and number of recipes simultaneously, possibly under high-volume demands, as well as assess food quality, taste, color, odor, etc.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions include:

  • Ensuring the Safety of Customers and Team Members according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and county Health Dept. Guidelines.
  • Washing hands frequently and appropriately wearing gloves.
  • Following infection prevention practices, including personal hygiene expectations.
  • Maintaining all work areas in a clean and organized manner; free of spills and fall hazards.
  • Monitoring and recording food and/or equipment temperatures and immediately correcting/escalating "out of range" occurrences.
  • Storing food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating, and rotation methods.
  • Operating equipment according to all safety guidelines.

You will also ensure Positive Service Outcomes by:

  • Following department work schedule (including weekends and holidays) and arriving at the work station prior to task start time.
  • Setting up, maintaining, and breaking down workstation according to area requirements.
  • Following written and verbal instructions with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Completing area checklists and forms.
  • Operating and caring for equipment according to manufacturer's and area-specific guidelines.

Flexibility to support other team members across the department is key to achieving desired service outcomes.

  • Following work area's uniform specifications.
  • Collaborating with team members and Leadership to meet the goals and objectives of the Department and Hospital.
  • Communicating in a respectful manner with clarity.
  • Respecting the cultural traditions of team members and customers.

Lastly, you will ensure the high quality of menu items prepared by utilizing culinary techniques:

  • Properly peeling and cutting fresh products, including butchering meats and preparing vegetables.
  • Utilizing proper cooking techniques such as dry method, wet method, and combination method cooking.
  • Identifying and handling/cooking vegetables, meats, spices/seasonings, pasta, and dairy products.
  • Accurately reading and following recipes.

Qualifications include:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred, but not required.
  • ServSafe (SRVSF-FH) Food Handler certification required within 60 days of hire.
  • At least one year of professional cooking highly preferred.
  • Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and Math.
  • Ability to complete mandatory computer-based learning and pass exam.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety regulations in a foodservice healthcare environment.
