Job Description

We are seeking a Cook for Cobb Hospital to prepare nutritious and delicious food for WellStar Patient Meal Service, Retail Service, and other satellite areas utilizing recipes and conventional and/or cook/chill production methods, equipment, or tools. This role requires a passion for the culinary arts and the menu items being prepared in a healthcare setting.

The Cook must be adamant about adhering to all sanitation and food handling codes established by the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point and local county Department of Health. It is essential to comply with a higher standard of safety and sanitation due to preparing food for a high-risk population that has developing, weakening, or compromised immune systems. The candidate must possess the ability to manage time and plan work accordingly to produce a variety and number of recipes simultaneously, possibly under high-volume demands.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Ensures the Safety of Customers and Team Members according to Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and County Health Department Guidelines.
  • Washes hands frequently and appropriately wears gloves.
  • Follows infection prevention practices and reports potential risks.
  • Maintains all work areas in a clean and organized manner, free of spills and fall hazards.
  • Monitors and records food and/or equipment temperatures, correcting/escalating out of range occurrences.
  • Stores food and/or supplies using proper labeling, dating, and rotation methods.
  • Operates equipment according to all safety guidelines and escalates any unsafe conditions.

Ensures Positive Service Outcomes by following department work schedule, setting up, maintaining, and breaking down workstation according to area requirements, and completing area checklists and forms.

The Cook remains flexible to support other team members across the department to achieve desired service outcomes and engages in efforts to create a world-class work environment.

The role includes ensuring the high quality of menu items prepared by utilizing culinary techniques such as:

  • Properly peeling and cutting fresh products, including butchering meats and preparing vegetables.
  • Utilizing proper cooking techniques such as dry method, wet method, and combination method cooking.
  • Identifying and properly handling/cooking vegetables, meats, spices/seasonings, pasta, and dairy products.
  • Accurately reading and following recipes, including skills of measurement/mathematical conversion and scaling.

The Cook performs other duties as assigned and complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct.

Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma General-Preferred.

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): ServSafe Food Handler within 60 Days.

Required Minimum Experience: Relevant experience Preferred.

Required Minimum Skills: Ability to communicate and understand verbal and written English language and math, complete mandatory computer-based learning, and understand safety regulations in a food service healthcare environment.
