Job Description

We are seeking a cook to join our kitchen team. The role involves preparing and cooking a variety of menu items, both independently and with assistance. You will follow recipes to prepare soups, stews, casseroles, gravies, sauces, hot cereals, syrups, meatloaf, meatballs, hamburgers, and croquettes, while adjusting recipes for varying quantities.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Roasting a variety of meats including beef, pork, veal, lamb, fish, and poultry.
  • Grilling, deep frying, broiling, and steaming foods.
  • Slicing meat manually and with mechanical equipment to specific requirements.
  • Apportioning foods for family-style servings and plate service.
  • Preparing vegetables and cold food platters.
  • Making salads, salad dressings, and sandwiches.
  • Preparing eggs in various styles, French toast, pancakes, and crepes.
  • Making coffee, tea, and fruit drinks.
  • Following health and safety precautions to ensure safe food preparation and storage.
  • Monitoring and maintaining appropriate temperatures of food items during preparation and service.

You will also:

  • Bring prepared foods from the preparation area to refrigerators or serving areas.
  • Pick up items needed for menu preparation, rotating food inventories as appropriate.
  • Take inventory to determine ordering requirements.
  • Load hot foods in carts and serve food as necessary.
  • Check food for appropriate preparation, temperature, and packaging.
  • Operate kitchen equipment designed to mix and cook food items.
  • Clean and maintain power kitchen equipment and cooking utensils.
  • Keep the working area clean in accordance with sanitation requirements.
  • Maintain personal hygiene.

You may also be assigned additional duties as needed.

The position requires:

  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, and bending.
  • Capability to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds unassisted.

Work conditions involve a kitchen environment that is well-lit but often hot and noisy, with exposure to steam, fumes, and extreme temperature changes.

To qualify, you need a minimum of one year of work experience related to the duties described, including skill in working with professional kitchen appliances and equipment. Communication in English (verbal and written) is essential.

Note that this job does not have an education qualification requirement.
