Job Description

The positions are located aboard Naval Station Great Lakes, IL. Incumbent will perform a full range of simple cooking tasks.

In this role, you will perform a variety of tasks such as grilling, frying, baking, prepping, and stocking in accordance with standardized recipes, procedures, and policies. You must be able to follow oral and written instructions, worksheets, recipes, menus, and work time schedules. Responsibilities include:

  • Preparing foods by peeling, chopping, grinding, paring, cutting, slicing, dicing, pureeing, dredging, flouring, and breading.
  • Weighing, measuring, and dispensing foods in accordance with portion controls.
  • Mixing ingredients according to precisely written recipes.
  • Setting up and replenishing the salad bar.
  • Cleansing and maintaining equipment and work areas.
  • Maintaining accurate food inventories and rotating stock items to prevent spoilage.
  • Performing other related duties as assigned.

Conditions of Employment include passing all applicable records and background checks and successfully passing the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.

A qualified candidate will demonstrate experience and knowledge related to this position, including:

  • Working knowledge of methods and procedures for food preparation in small quantities.
  • Ability to read and understand written food service material.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic computations for recipes.
  • Knowledge of food characteristics and cooking times.
  • Skill in planning and coordinating timing for menu items.
  • Knowledge of sanitation principles.

This position does not have a positive education requirement. Salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. You may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. We utilize E-Verify to confirm eligibility to work in the United States.
