Job Description

The Culinary Specialist provides full-scope, hands-on production cooking in a community culinary program. This role is responsible for maintaining a superior level of quality service and cleanliness at all times.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Exemplifying community standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and operational organization.
  • Adhering to food quality, appearance, and presentation standards.
  • Producing and serving menu cycle programs compliant with required Nutritional/Dietary criteria.
  • Exhibiting cooking standards of speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Demonstrating knowledge in all areas of cooking preparation and production.
  • Visiting residents to evaluate food service and making necessary revisions to improve service.
  • Planning, preparing, presenting, and delivering all meals served within the property.
  • Maintaining a sanitary work environment and conforming to local codes and policies.
  • Inspecting food storage rooms and utility/janitorial closets.
  • Completing necessary forms, reports, and evaluations for equipment and supply control.
  • Obtaining and maintaining Serv Safe/Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Processing diet changes and cooperating in therapeutic and regular diet plans.
  • Planning and preparing food items for activities, marketing, and special events.
  • Encouraging teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers.
  • Supporting a positive and professional image through actions and dress.
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Experience.

Minimum qualifications include a high school education or equivalent and at least 1 year of cooking experience in a restaurant or senior living environment. The candidate must possess good character, display high personal integrity, and demonstrate compassion towards older adults.

Working conditions are in a well-lighted, air-conditioned health care environment with the ability to withstand extremes of heat and cold.
