Job Description

Scratchboard Kitchen is seeking a Sous Chef for our dinner service with strong leadership skills, attention to detail, and dedication to the Scratchboard Kitchen mission. We are building an environment where there is room to grow, collaborate, and learn.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Ensure prep, service, and day-to-day operations run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Know how to expedite and run a smooth and efficient line while working a station.
  • Ability for a flexible schedule during the time you are needed to work in the AM.
  • Have prior experience expediting, checking the quality of dishes, and paying close attention to allergies.
  • Ordering & inventory, prep lists, and driving the daily kitchen functionality.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, being receptive to constructive criticism, learning & adapting.
  • Hold others accountable and be a positive leader in the kitchen.
  • Ensure that the highest level of quality in relation to the culinary offering is delivered to all guests.
  • Ensure that all food prep and storage areas are kept clean and organized.
  • Ensure that the restaurant is compliant with all health and safety code requirements at all times.
  • Ensure minimal waste, log daily cooler temperatures, and facilitate maintenance issues.
  • Weekly scheduling of the kitchen team and maintaining/balancing labor costs.
  • Maintain a positive attitude.

Scratchboard Kitchen is an upscale casual restaurant in downtown Arlington Heights serving simple yet elevated scratch-made breakfast and lunch fare, coffee, fresh-pressed juice, and alcoholic beverages. We are a growing company looking for the best talent in the industry.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands for this position include seeing, hearing, speaking, reaching, frequently lifting up to 25 pounds, occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing for 4 to 8 hours, bending, and moving intermittently during working hours. These physical requirements may be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodations.
