Job Description

SMOQUE BBQ is currently looking for Full Time or Part Time PREP COOKS to join our team. This is a general kitchen position that is responsible for preparing quality food based on our recipes. Prior kitchen or cooking experience is required.

Smoque (smok) BBQ is a neighborhood kind of place that cooks up BBQ good enough to make it a true destination. We've operated in the Old Irving Park neighborhood for just over 16 years. Recently voted best BBQ in Illinois by Yelp!

Summary Of Position

This PREP COOK role is responsible for multiple tasks in the kitchen. They are:

  • Line Support: During operating hours the Line Cooks will call out for food items they need replenished, put in the oven or on the stove in order to not interrupt the guest order flow. The Prep Cooks are responsible for supporting the line in these tasks and ensuring food quality prior to items being moved to the line.
  • Food Preparation: Preparing food items based on daily par levels according to published recipes. This would include pre-prep tasks to assist other prep shifts in being prepared for their tasks. Always making sure the next shift is set up to succeed and teamwork are extremely important.

Requirements

  • Must be available to be scheduled for shifts of various lengths between the hours of 6am-10pm Tuesday through Sunday.
  • Must be on time and dependable. Weekend availability is mandatory; no exceptions.

Qualifications

  • Be able to communicate clearly and effectively.
  • Be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time. Shifts can last anywhere from 4-10 hours, but breaks are provided according to company policies and state laws.
  • Work well in a team environment and be willing to communicate regularly with other prep staff to accomplish a common goal.
  • Food Handler's Certification is a plus and will be required once hired.
