Clark-Lindsey seeks the skills of a creative, friendly, adaptable Sous Chef. This position will be of interest to a candidate who is a team player with kitchen leadership experience, extensive high-end banquet experience, or a culinary degree plus related experience. Extensive experience in fundamental aspects of kitchen operations, and strict adherence to best practices for public health and safety standards is expected for this key role.

This role requires strong leadership, excellent culinary skills, and the ability to work with professionalism and poise in a fast-paced environment. The Sous Chef is a mentor and serves as a positive role model/example to the kitchen team, helping train, guide, and motivate staff to successfully and professionally meet and exceed culinary standards set forth by Clark-Lindsey leadership.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Effective staff mentoring and supervision expected.
  • Interact with residents and visitors in the dining rooms, proudly providing information about meals and accepting comments or feedback offered.
  • Ensure food quality and safety, and maintain high culinary standards.
  • Experience with kitchen operations, including planning, ordering, and purchasing is required.
  • Experience with locally sourced, plant-based, and other non-traditional menus are encouraged to apply.

The shift will be determined based on a candidate's skill set. Morning/Afternoon or Afternoon/Evening shifts can be expected.

Job Requirements:

  • Per the Illinois Department of Public Health, all team members must receive the annual influenza vaccine (exemption requests will be reviewed).
  • Experience with kitchen operations, including planning, ordering, and purchasing.
  • The Sous Chef will produce entrees, side dishes, soups, etc.
  • Must be able to make simple mathematical conversions for recipe conversion and production planning.
  • Must be able to push, pull, and/or lift a minimum of 40 pounds to a minimum height of 6 feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 30 feet.
  • Must possess sight/hearing so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Must be able to function independently.
  • Must abide by Clark-Lindsey’s HIPAA privacy and security rules as described in the Employee handbook.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, and the general public.
