In 2016, Masseria earned a star in Washington, DC’s, first-ever Michelin Guide, an honor it has received every year since. We pride ourselves on high standards in both cuisine and service, matching those of our discerning guests. In the kitchen, everything is created from scratch, with great attention to detail, including bread service and all ingredients supporting the cocktail program; we also practice whole animal butchery. Our front-of-the-house team provides seamless service to our guests with knowledge and warmth. Responsibilities

As a Baker at Masseria, you will be an integral part of our kitchen team, playing a vital role in producing high-quality baked goods.

  • Prepare a wide variety of high-end baked goods, including artisan breads and pastries, and high-end Italian baked goods.
  • Operate baking equipment, including planetary mixers, deck ovens, and combi ovens.
  • Produce bakery items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen team.
  • Ensure that baked goods are produced in a timely fashion for morning delivery and sale.
  • Follow the Pastry Chef's vision of new and exciting desserts to renew our menus and engage our customers.
  • Check the quality of materials and condition of equipment used for baking.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly cooking station and adhere to health and safety standards.
  • Monitor the baking pantry (ingredients, materials, other products) and communicate any discrepancies.
  • Answer, report, and follow the Executive Pastry Chef or Pastry Sous Chef’s instructions.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of experience in a bakery or related environment.
  • Knowledge of basic baking techniques.
  • Ability to act with integrity, honesty, and knowledge that promotes the culture, values, and mission of Masseria.
  • Willingness to work and learn in a team environment.
  • A passion for food service.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude with the team.
  • Strive to present the best products.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • All employees are to maintain a neat and well-groomed appearance (specifics will be provided).
