The General Manager of Sky Lodge oversees Unity's 150-acre Sky Lodge campus nestled in Moose River, Maine. This revenue-generating role is responsible for lodging operations, guest experience, and business development. The position demands strategic direction, partnership development, marketing, supervision, budget management, and overall operational excellence.

The Sky Lodge campus includes a historic log cabin lodge, 12 guest rooms, a 50-seat dining room, a welcome center, six rentable cabin homes, a community educational facility, and onsite trails. The General Manager is a key steward of the environment and will envision new opportunities for outdoor adventure travelers and those seeking purposeful travel.

  • Directly oversee the day-to-day business and lodging operations of the Sky Lodge, focusing on guest experience quality, revenue generation, and adherence to standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate with the Sky Lodge Chef for all food and beverage needs.
  • Develop new revenue streams, including corporate business, educational events, weddings, and lodging partnerships.
  • Coordinate groups and events, prioritizing educational activities and ensuring seamless experiences while adhering to a margin-based budget.
  • Manage the events calendar, responding to requests for proposals and venue/catering information from internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proactively communicate challenges, successes, and failures to the VP.
  • Supervise Sky Lodge guest experience employees.
  • Facilitate strategic planning, objectives, and action plans that align with overall goals.
  • Manage business administration, including budget management, expense/revenue analysis and sustainability outcomes, aiming to increase auxiliary revenue while ensuring guest satisfaction.
  • Seek new agreements with vendors, service providers, and suppliers.
  • Liaise with the Marketing unit to develop promotional materials aligned with brand standards.
  • Develop, implement, monitor, and control pricing and rate strategies to drive revenue.
  • Update selling strategies and product information across all distribution channels.
  • Conduct competitor analysis to maintain appropriate rate positioning and product offerings.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and upkeep of facilities and grounds.
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest and proprietary information.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations (e.g., State of Maine Food Code, Department of Health and Human Services).
  • Represent Unity Environmental University to the broader community.
  • Provide after-hours coverage as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in hospitality, culinary, hotel, or business management, or 3-5 years of direct experience.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
  • Passion for hospitality and a commitment to environmental sustainability.
  • Knowledge of customer service, hospitality management, hotel operations, event planning, and motivating/disciplining hospitality workers.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and revenue-focused attitude.
  • Strong work ethic, self-starter mentality, and teamwork abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Adaptability in learning new software.
  • Social media experience (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube).
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to function effectively within a matrix organizational structure.

Preferred Skills:

  • 5+ years of travel tourism/hospitality experience
  • Experience with internships and/or apprenticeships
  • Familiarity with hotel, restaurant, and retail operating systems/software
  • Business proficiency in French
