Pay Rate: $20-$23 per hour (depending on education and experience).

Christopher Place Employment Academy is an intensive residential employment program that provides education and training, as well as recovery support to formerly homeless men of the Baltimore area. During the first three months of their stay, the men formally commit to a minimum of six months in residency to acquire the necessary skills and financial standing to be successful in the community. The commitment is designed to support these men in their transition from a lifestyle of homelessness and substance abuse or dependency to a positive routine in training towards future employment and stable living.

Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Christopher Place Employment Academy within our Daily Bread Employment Center is currently seeking a Cook for Our Daily Bread. The Cook performs daily cooking and meal preparation of large batches of food in accordance with standardized recipes, current federal, state, and local regulations as well as established policies and procedures. Coordinates the daily operation of the kitchen to include providing direction to staff and volunteers as assigned.

The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 10:00am-6:00pm.

Due to the essential nature of business, must have reliable means of transportation and be available for work, regardless of weather conditions.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

• Ensures compliance with health regulations and protects products throughout the service cycle from receiving to service.
• Ensures that all food is prepared and served in accordance with safe food handling practices.
• Receives and properly stores food donations.
• Plans menus as required, ensures apportionments and good nutrition, and utilization of donated food.
• Orientates and trains kitchen workers to provide assistance with meal preparation, serving and clean up.
• Ensures that sanitary conditions are maintained and cleans areas and equipment.
• Maintains records and statistics associated with kitchen operations.
• Maintains proper inventory levels.
• Works independently focused on daily kitchen operations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements:

• 1 - 2 years cooking experience in a commercial kitchen/restaurant environment.
• Must have valid ServSafe Food Manager Certification or obtain it within six months of employment and must maintain certification to remain in position thereafter.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

• Moving about accomplishing tasks or moving from one work site to another.
• Adjusting or moving objects up to 50lbs in all directions.
• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Assessing the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• Operating machinery and/or power tools.
• Occasional exposure to high and low temperatures.
