Job Description

Friends House Retirement Community is seeking a Cook to join our Dining Services team. This position involves preparing, cooking, and serving a variety of food items including soups, meats, vegetables, garnishes, and desserts while adhering to federal, state, and local standards.

The Cook will have the following essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Read menu to estimate food requirements and procure food from storage areas.
  • Perform advance preparation tasks as needed and directed.
  • Adjust thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, and other equipment.
  • Prepare food according to provided recipes and preparation sheets.
  • Complete food temperature checks for each meal.
  • Taste each item being cooked to ensure quality.
  • Prepare food for delivery to various dining areas and ensure proper batch cooking.
  • Complete preparation records and store food items properly post-meal service.
  • Clean work area and equipment used in food preparation.
  • Follow safety and sanitation rules and practices.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of fire safety procedures and assist with resident evacuation if needed.
  • Assist co-workers with tasks as necessary.

Qualifications for this role include:

  • Minimum of eighteen years of age.
  • Associate degree or equivalent experience in culinary arts.
  • Ability to communicate verbally with supervisors and team members.
  • Capability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.

The physical demands of the job require standing, using hands and arms, and the ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment may expose employees to mechanical parts and extreme heat, with a typically loud noise level.

This position operates on a schedule of weekdays and weekends from 12pm to 8pm.
