Job Description

General Statement Of Duties And Responsibilities: Cooks, serves food to inmates and staff, and assists in the preparation of menus.

Supervision Received: Works under the direction of the Executive Chef and the Kitchen Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised: Supervises large numbers of inmates in the preparation and serving of food and related tasks.

Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the planning of menus and special diets.
  • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of meals and special diets.
  • Assists the Kitchen Supervisor and Executive Chef in ordering food and equipment for the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Ensures the timely and orderly service of meals and proper nutritional diets.
  • Ensures that the kitchen, food storage, and dining areas are maintained in compliance with applicable health codes, regulations, and Department policies.
  • Accounting for all kitchen stores, equipment, and utensils.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all kitchen, storage, and dining areas, equipment, and utensils.
  • Other related duties as the Sheriff may assign from time to time.

Qualifications: Must meet one or more of the following criteria: one or more years experience as a cook or chef preparing food for large numbers of people; a degree or certificate from a culinary arts institution; a registered dietician's degree; or the equivalent.

Essential Functions: Regular attendance; Compliance with security procedures; High standard of personal hygiene; Availability for various shifts and mandatory overtime.

Minimum Physical Requirements For Essential Functions: sit or stand periodically for 8 hours; lift up to 40 pounds occasionally; carry up to 40 pounds occasionally; climb stairs occasionally; and walk short distances.
