The wage range for this role is $18-$20/hour depending on experience. Please enter your preferences for work days and shifts in the availability feature.

Dining Services Chef Responsibilities include:

  • Prepares and serves meals for assigned shifts.
  • Cleans after preparation and service; work area, pots, and equipment.
  • Ensures all leftovers are covered, labeled, dated, and stored in the proper place.
  • Assists Dining Services Director in all assigned responsibilities.
  • Notes and reports menu substitutions and any prep shortages for the menu in absence of Dining Service Director.
  • Prepares and serves appetizing food in accordance with planned menus, approved recipes, and scheduled mealtimes.
  • Coordinates dietetic services with other departments as necessary.
  • Works with Dining Service Director as necessary and implements recommended changes as required.
  • Stores food and checks supplies upon delivery in absence of Dining Services Director.
  • Practices effective communication skills with residents, guests, and employees.
  • Uses active listening skills, provides effective and timely feedback, participates actively in meetings, and takes action to maintain the confidentiality of communications.
  • Interacts with residents, families, staff, and other visitors to the property in a pleasant, respectful, and courteous manner.
  • Attends Resident Township or Food meetings.
  • Incorporates resident's suggestions whenever possible into meal and food preparations.
  • Fosters teamwork among all staff.
  • Ensures the coordination of service with other departments as needed.
  • Serves as a role model of Sonida Senior Living's principles of customer service and ensures staff adherence to these principles.
  • Acts as a positive representative of the community at all times.
  • Reports maintenance and repair items through the Maintenance Work Order program.
  • Provides initial check on food serving to ensure that food is displayed attractively and served properly.
  • Participates in the recommendation and implementation of Safety and Quality Improvement Programs.
  • Promotes Sonida Senior Living’s missions, values, and goals; high ethical standards of professional conduct including adherence to appearance and uniform standards; inspires the same commitment in others.
  • Adapts leadership style to the situation, the task, and/or the person.
  • Brings a focused, calming influence to crisis situations.

Equipment Used:

The following equipment is used, including, but not limited to, electric slicer, mixer, oven, stove, microwave, grill, dishwasher, fryer, toaster, coffee maker, and various other kitchen utensils and appliances, including knives. A basic working knowledge of ovens, grills, steam wells, exhaust systems, and temperature controls. Issues maintenance work order requests for repairs as needed.

Recognizes that meal periods account for almost 40% of time spent during awake hours for residents, and understand the huge impact this emphasis has on the physical and mental well-being of residents and the duress it places on them if dining services don't meet their expectations.

Qualifications:

  • One to two years’ experience in a similar position preferred.
  • Enjoy providing exceptional customer service and care to our senior residents.
  • 18+ years of age.

Pay Rate: $18-$20/ hour
