Job Description

If you enjoy cooking delicious food and working in a ministry setting, the Cook position on our Food Services Team in Boone, NC may be a place where you could use your talents! In this position, you will prepare and serve food to employees and guests, following nutritional and sanitary standards. Our menus and recipes are approved by the Food Services Manager. It is vitally important to adhere to all policies including minimum waste, food safety, and sanitation. This individual will oversee production within an assigned area in coordination with the Kitchen Manager. Come join an exciting team!!

Hours for this shift are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

In the role of Cook, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain your relationship with Jesus Christ and be an effective witness for Him.
  • Prepare and serve food according to approved menus and standardized recipes while keeping waste to a minimum.
  • Oversee efficient lunch execution while meeting the needs of employees and guests.
  • Monitor and place order procurement for workstations on a bi-weekly basis.
  • Provide training in the assigned area on the use of equipment, health department standards, customer service, prep, and cleaning.
  • Cross-train in at least one additional area as determined by the Kitchen Manager.
  • Monitor food quality using Food Safe methods as directed; apply correct cooking temperatures.
  • Help maintain orderly, clean facilities; sweep and mop floors.
  • Assist in serving meals in appropriate portions, notifying the Chef/Manager if quantities are low.
  • Prep and serve food and beverages to guests at catering, special events, and banquets as scheduled.
  • Assist in daily closing and cleaning; collect and return dirty dishes to washing area; remove trash and break down boxes.
  • Communicate to the Food Service Manager any problems or situations that arise, such as product shortages, special orders, and repair or maintenance needs.
  • Follow the policies and procedures of Samaritan's Purse as outlined in the Policy Manual.
  • Attend daily morning devotions and participate in prayer support for the ministry, its donors, and volunteers.
  • Maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, vendors, charitable beneficiaries, and the general public.
