Job Description

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping at-risk youth.

This position is located at Cabarrus Youth Development Center in Concord (Cabarrus County), NC.

This position will assist the Food Service Supervisor, provide support of the facility’s Child Nutrition Program, and will ensure compliance with the Department’s Federal Child Nutrition Program regulations.

  • Providing nutritionally adequate meals meeting the federal Child Nutrition Program meal patterns.
  • Maintaining required records, reports, and inventories in compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Requisitioning food and supplies as needed.
  • Maintaining high standards of personal cleanliness as well as food sanitation.
  • Interpreting and following standard recipes and prescribed menus as well as specific oral and written instructions.
  • Checking the cost and quality of items received and ensuring proper storage.
  • Complying with policies and procedures of the Department.
  • Assuming any responsibilities as designated by the Youth Development Center Food Service Supervisor II, facility business officer, facility director, the Child Nutrition Program Administrator, and Child Nutrition Program Administrative Officer.

Work Schedule:

Work hours for this position are Monday-Friday; however, candidates must be able to work on-call hours, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis and be able to work a variable work schedule to meet the needs of juveniles and their families.

Necessary Special Qualification:

Applicants for positions designated as Juvenile Justice Officers are subject to and must meet the hiring and training standards established by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission. The selected applicant must attend and successfully complete and pass the Juvenile Justice Officer Basic Training certification program, which requires four weeks to complete and includes classroom and physically demanding training.

The selected candidate must:

  • Have or be able to obtain required documentation for certification as a Juvenile Justice Officer (i.e., a diploma).
  • Pass a Criminal Background check.
  • Pass a Drug Screening test.
  • Pass a Psychological test.
  • Pass a Sexual Risk Screening test.
  • Pass a Physical (to include Vision and Hearing).
  • Be a US citizen.
  • Be at least 20 years of age.
  • Have a valid driver's license.
