Job Description

The Salvation Army is seeking a Full Time Lead Cook to lead the day-to-day planning, preparing, serving, and cleanup of all meals. In this role, you will handle inventory and ordering, supervise all kitchen staff and volunteers, and maintain safety and security within the facility. You will treat all receiving services with respect and implement the rules of the shelter program fairly and equitably. This is a drug and alcohol-free facility.

Essential duties include:

  • Planning, coordinating, and preparing a daily variety of balanced and nutritious meals.
  • Maintaining inventory of the pantry, including ordering and stocking of food and cleaning supplies.
  • Training, supervising, and collaborating with other kitchen staff and volunteers as necessary.
  • Managing the yearly budget for the kitchen.
  • Maintaining the condition of kitchen tools and equipment in accordance with OSHA regulations.
  • Participating in weekly documented meetings with kitchen staff and the assistant director.
  • Ensuring cleanliness of the kitchen and dining room.
  • Assisting with acceptance of in-kind donations and keeping a receipt log.
  • Providing inside and outside security for the building.

Physical requirements include the ability to lift, move, or carry materials up to 200 lbs. with assistance, and to sit, reach, bend, twist, climb stairs, and use ladders.

Working conditions may involve occasional outdoor work in inclement weather and frequent contact with people from diverse backgrounds.

Previous experience working as a cook in a nursing home, assisted living facility, shelter, or hospital is preferred. The candidate chosen will be required to pass a criminal history information check.
