Chef Position at The Wheeler School

We are currently seeking full-time CHEF positions at The Wheeler School, located at 216 Hope Street, Providence, RI 02906. Applications are accepted online only.

Previous culinary experience is required. Experience working in a K12 or higher education setting is preferred but not mandatory.

Job Summary

The Chef is responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating kitchen, food production, and food service associates. Key duties include:

  • Supervising and coordinating cooks and other associates in food preparation, cooking, and service.
  • Ensuring compliance with all food handling, sanitation, and customer service standards.
  • Supervising hourly kitchen associates, including interviewing, scheduling, payroll, training, counseling, performance reviews, and disciplinary action.
  • Preparing high-quality food items according to standardized recipes, meeting production, delivery, and service schedules.
  • Ensuring proper food presentation, quality, portion control, and serving temperatures.
  • Tracking food use, waste, and consumption for inventory management.
  • Inspecting incoming product and supplies for quality and quantity.
  • Maintaining sanitation of equipment, supplies, and utensils.
  • Maintaining cleanliness of workstations and display equipment.
  • Assisting in menu and recipe development.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
