Job Description

The Cook is to prepare food in accordance with current applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, as well as facility policies and procedures; and to ensure that quality food service is always provided.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing and in accordance with medically appropriate portion control.
  • Review menus prior to preparation of food and inspect special diet trays to ensure accurate preparation.
  • Complete forms and reports to document dietary procedures.
  • Report disrepair of dietary equipment.
  • Assist in establishing food service production lines to ensure that meals are prepared on time.
  • Assist in and/or direct scheduled cleaning duties.
  • Participate in and assist with departmental studies and projects as assigned.
  • Follow established Infection Control and Universal Precaution policies when performing daily tasks.
  • Wear protective clothing and devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood or body fluids.
  • Report complaints and grievances to supervisor.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Requirements:

  • Recognize and respond to dietary emergencies and report observations.
  • Report accidents and incidents to supervisor immediately in all situations.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all patient information and facility business.

Working Conditions:

  • Good hearing and ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, kneeling, pushing and pulling, and use of hands.
  • Work is typically performed in a standard long-term care environment; well-lit and comfortable temperature-controlled.
  • Position may require flexible hours, unscheduled overtime, or occasional weekend work.
  • Travel may be required.
