Sous Chef

At Thomas Cuisine, an award-winning, privately held contract food service company founded in 1986, we advocate for the healing power of whole foods and strive to prepare fresh, scratch-made cuisine daily. We are seeking a passionate and skilled Sous Chef to join our dynamic team at the bioMerieux location in Salt Lake City.

Job Responsibilities

  • Ensuring all food is produced to high quality, in a timely and consistent manner, meeting all menu and customer standards.
  • Developing rapport with customers while upholding Thomas Cuisine's values and mission.
  • Providing leadership and motivation to team members (some supervisory experience required).
  • Setting up and stocking the sandwich/sliced food station with all necessary supplies.
  • Properly handling, storing, and rotating all products in the station or walk-in cooler.
  • Preparing menu items in cooperation with the kitchen staff.
  • Following proper cooking techniques and presenting dishes with care.
  • Adhering to all food handling and storage procedures, complying with company and state regulations.
  • Maintaining a positive, respectful, and professional demeanor with customers and team members.
  • Reporting all unsafe working conditions, operational needs, and equipment issues to management.

Essential Qualifications

  • Ability to stand and walk for the duration of the shift, as needed.
  • Ability to interact with and respond to questions from managers, clients, team members, and guests.
  • ServSafe® Certification and valid State Food Handlers Card.
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screen, in accordance with applicable state laws and regulations.
  • Ability to provide required work authorization documents. We utilize E-Verify.
  • High School Diploma/GED

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk extensively throughout the shift.
  • Lifting boxes up to 25 pounds.
  • Pushing/pulling food hot boxes up to 50 pounds.
  • Bending, stooping, and reaching for carts, food, trays, and kitchen equipment.
  • Manual dexterity for using kitchen tools and utensils.
  • Visual acuity for reading menus, labels, and directions.
  • Hearing ability for responding to verbal communications.
  • Exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
  • Taste and smell to assess food quality, freshness, and dietary requirements.
  • Ability to distinguish colors for food presentation.

Location: bioMerieux 1001 South 4800 West, Salt Lake City

Schedule: Monday-Wednesday 6am-2:30pm, Saturday & Sunday 7am-3:30pm

Wage Range: $17/hour plus shift premium for weekends
