Job Description

Join the food service team at River Valley Therapeutic Residence in Essex, Vermont. We are seeking dedicated individuals passionate about food and committed to providing healthy meals to our residents. This role offers a supportive and low-stress work environment.

Job Responsibilities

As a Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and serving meals to residents. This will include:

• Preparing meals according to established recipes and procedures
• Operating kitchen equipment, including cutters, slicers, and knives
• Handling heavy weights (up to 60 lbs)
• Working in an institutional kitchen environment under potentially high heat and humidity conditions
• Supervising residents or inmates in work situations

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• One (1) year or more of experience in volume cooking
• Or completion of a high school level culinary arts career preparation program
• Or completion of a formal course in commercial food preparation

Special Requirements

Note: Incumbents employed by the Vermont Veterans' Home, River Valley Therapeutic Residence, and Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital must obtain ServSafe Certification within the first six months of employment.

Eligibility

This Cook position (Job Requisition #51055) is open to both State employees and external applicants. Availability to work one weekend per month is required.
