Job Description

The Culinary Specialist provides full-scope, hands-on production cooking in a community Culinary program. This position is responsible for maintaining a superior level of quality service and cleanliness at all times.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Exemplify community standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and operational organization.
  • Adhere to food quality, appearance, and presentation standards.
  • Produce and serve menu cycle programs compliant with required Nutritional/Dietary criteria.
  • Exhibit cooking standards of speed, accuracy, and efficiency.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in all areas of cooking preparation and production.
  • Evaluate food service quality, quantity, temperature, and appearance to promote improved food service.
  • Plan, prepare, present, and deliver all meals served within the property.
  • Maintain a sanitary work environment and conform to local codes and policies.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing necessary forms and reports.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly dining room.
  • Obtain and maintain Serv Safe/Food Handler’s Permit.
  • Process diet changes and cooperate in therapeutic and regular diet plans.
  • Encourage teamwork through cooperative interactions with co-workers and other departments.
  • Support a positive and professional image through actions and dress.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Culinary Experience.

Minimum qualifications include a high school education or equivalent and 1 year of restaurant or senior living cooking experience. Candidates should possess the ability to make moderately complex mathematical calculations and follow approved recipes. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential for interacting with residents, families, and team members. The position requires mobility and good health.

The work environment is well-lighted and air-conditioned, with the ability to withstand extremes of heat and cold and odors from food preparation.
