Job Description

The incumbent independently prepares all types of meats, poultry, seafood, vegetables, fruits, sauces, and gravies for menus. Responsibilities include preparing, cooking, seasoning, and portioning food for all meals following standardized recipes at different levels of difficulty. The incumbent makes modifications to recipes for ingredient quantities, number of servings, and size of the equipment available.

The incumbent plans, regulates, and schedules cooking procedures so numerous completed food products are ready at the same time. They prepare and present food in a visually appealing manner and prepare menu items using special or difficult recipes requiring numerous interrelated steps, many ingredients, and lengthy preparation time. The incumbent tests and evaluates new food products and oversees food items for private parties and special functions. They must ensure the completion of menus for each meal period when due.

The incumbent oversees, organizes, and coordinates the work of lower graded employees and analyzes and corrects production problems. They will be primary in training new cooks and will guide and direct the Food Service Workers, giving hands-on direction and guidance to complete daily tasks.

Additionally, the incumbent must determine and submit daily inventory needs to the Manager and assist the Manager in completing monthly inventory. They are responsible for ensuring the kitchen is kept clean as directed by the Manager and must be capable of opening and closing the facility, subject to extreme hot and cold working conditions. The incumbent will perform other duties as assigned by management.

Conditions of Employment include varying hours as required by the needs of the program, including split days off, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The incumbent must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check and must have their salary sent to a financial institution of their choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer. They must successfully complete a National Agency Check or equivalent background screening. This is a "MISSION ESSENTIAL" position.

The job does not have an education qualification requirement. The salary is dependent on experience and/or education. Some positions have special requirements. Selectees may be required to complete a one (1) year probationary period. We utilize E-Verify to confirm the selectee's eligibility to work in the United States.

Spouses of active duty military members of the Armed Forces may receive preference in hiring under this announcement if they are among the best qualified referred and are within reach of selection. Spouse preference does not apply to NF 04 and NF 05 positions. Failure to submit current PCS orders with the application will prevent spousal preference from being granted.

Commander, Navy Installations Command is a Drug-Free Federal Workplace, and the use of illegal drugs will not be tolerated, with penalties including removal from Federal Service.

SELECTIVE SERVICE REQUIREMENT: If you are a male born after December 31, 1959, and at least 18 years of age, employment law (5 U.S.C. 3328) requires that you must register with the Selective Service System (military draft), unless you meet certain exemptions. If applicable, failure to register will prevent you from being considered for employment.
