Job Description

The Ocosta School District is accepting applications for Substitute Cooks. We are interested in candidates who are committed to students and to a continuing program of personal and professional growth.

General Qualifications:

  • Food Handler's Permit
  • High School Diploma
  • Washington State Driver's License
  • WSP Fingerprint/Background Clearance

Cook Duties:

  • The cook's primary responsibility will be to assist the head cook in cooking, baking, preparing, and serving food items that meet mandated nutritional requirements.
  • Verifying quantities and specifications of orders.
  • Maintaining facilities in a sanitary condition.
  • Assisting assigned food services personnel in food preparation.
  • Maintaining the highest standards of safety and cleanliness in the kitchen.
  • Maintaining all food handling and storage in compliance with state health department guidelines.
  • Preparing food according to a planned menu and determining if the finished product is of best quality, both in flavor and appearance before it is served.
  • Serving breakfast and/or lunches to students or selling ala carte items.
  • Cleaning cafeteria area, including the sanitation and wiping down of tables prior to storage.
  • Assisting the head cook as requested.
  • Reporting immediately to the food service supervisor any problems or accidents occurring in the kitchen or on the cafeteria premises.
  • Reporting to the food service supervisor any faulty or inferior quality food that is received.
  • Performing the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment, the washing and sterilizing of all dishes, silverware, and utensils.
  • Performing other food service-related duties as assigned pursuant to the contract.
  • Performing the essentials of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Completing work assigned.
  • Consistently dealing with people in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Must have regular attendance.
  • Demonstrating good judgment and common sense.
  • Capable of standing/walking without restrictions.
  • Demonstrating ability to operate and care for kitchen equipment.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Compensation and benefits that are competitive with industry standards if the substitute works, or is anticipated to work, 630 hrs per school year or more.
  • Medical/Dental/Vision/Supplemental benefits are available through the Washington State Healthcare Authority (HCA) School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB).
  • Sick Leave.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
