Job Description

We are looking for a Dietary Cook at Highland Clarksburg Hospital. Responsibilities include the preparation of meals according to menus planned by the Registered Dietitian, food service to patients and employees, and cleaning the department and equipment utilizing proper infection control procedures. The Dietary Cook reports to the Kitchen Manager.

Essential Duties

  • Plans individual cooking schedule for regular and therapeutic menus and special functions.
  • Assembles items needed for preparation from low temperature storage units and storerooms.
  • Follows recipes and portioning procedures to prepare a variety of dishes.
  • Tastes all food during preparation to ensure proper seasoning and cooking.
  • Sets up steam table attractively for serving and labels food accordingly.
  • Monitors serving line and replenishes food as needed.
  • Prepares leftover food for proper storage, labeled with description and date.
  • Records equipment and food temperatures and meal counts daily.
  • Keeps cooking area clean and orderly and disposes of trash properly.
  • Performs cleaning and sanitation duties.
  • Participates in Department's and Facility's in-services.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • May provide information to nursing staff regarding patient responses to foods.
  • Receives and checks in food supplies to ensure proper handling.

Education And Experience

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience.
  • May be required to obtain a GED within six months of hire.
  • Prefer one year of commercial cooking experience.

Language Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret instructions and documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and communicate effectively.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with various variables.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions in different formats.

Other Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to operate dishwasher, stoves, ovens, mixers, and other related equipment.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
