Job Description

The Head Baker manages all aspects of baking production at UCSD #1, including planning, preparing, and baking a variety of nutritious and appealing baked goods for students. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local nutrition standards, manages inventory, supply ordering, and upholds food safety and sanitation protocols.

The Head Baker is part of the leadership team and is responsible for all day-to-day operations. This role requires leadership skills, organizational skills, training staff, and collaboration with the Kitchen Manager and Food Service Director.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leading the baking department with success.
  • Creating a vibrant culture and a healthy team setting.
  • Working independently as well as in a team.
  • Interacting with staff at all levels in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintaining a high level of professionalism.
  • Conducting daily inspections of all areas of the facility.
  • Preparing and delivering effective sanitation training.
  • Proactively maintaining equipment for top performance.
  • Ensuring baked goods are of consistent quality.
